Work is routed to whoever fits it, on a clock, and nobody can pay to skip the queue.
Put in your postcode and see who actually covers it before you write a word about the job. Quotes come from traders the work was offered to, not from whoever paid the most, and the order they are offered in is published in full.
Money for each stage is held until you sign that stage off. Traders pay 5% when a job is signed off, capped at £1,500 a year, and nothing before that.
